VAN WAYNEN PERFORMANCE AWARDS
and
EMERGING ARTISTS GRANTS

WINNER’S RECITAL: JUNE 8, 2025
We welcome applications from musicians in all instruments, piano and voice, age 17 to 28, who reside or study within the ten Bay Area counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano and Sonoma Counties.)
The Van Waynen Award is highly competitive, and intended for young musicians who have reached an exceptional performance standard. First prize is $4000, second prize $2500, with other prizes offered at the discretion of the Panel. Awards must be used towards music education and/or career advancement. (more info here)
Up to twenty Emerging Artists Grants (between $1000 and $2000) will be offered to music students in all areas of study – performance, composition, conducting, music education – with demonstrated financial need. Grants are intended to offset costs associated with travel to auditions or festivals, recording, instrument purchase or maintenance, or other study-related expenses. (more info here)
Application Checklist:
• Submission of the completed 2025 APPLICATION FORM (with links to audition VIDEOS)
• Van Waynen Award applicants MUST PROVIDE UNEDITED VIDEOS of THREE CONTRASTING PIECES that showcase the performer’s strongest performances. The videos must be recorded AFTER September 1, 2024.
• Applicants to the Emerging Artists Grants should provide at least ONE unedited, recent video AND a paragraph explaining the reason for the request.) Any videos must be recorded AFTER September 1, 2024.
• Emerging Artists Grant applicants must provide evidence of financial need:
Please email a PDF or JPG to scholarships@berkeleypianoclub.org showing the complete page from your (or your parent/guardian’s if you are claimed as a dependent) most recent IRS form – 1040, showing item 11, ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME. Please redact (black out) all Social Security or Tax ID numbers. We will delete the attachment after verifying your financial need.
• You will be asked to submit a photo in the application, for publicity purposes.
• There is NO application fee
You may apply to BOTH the Van Waynen Award and Emerging Artists Grant, but can only win in one category.
Past winners of the Van Waynen Award OR Emerging Artists Grant are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply to either.
All recipients of awards/grants will be required to provide a W9 form in order to receive their funds.
Winners of the Van Waynen Award, and selected recipients of the Emerging Artists Grants should plan to perform at the Berkeley Piano Club in a Winner’s Recital on JUNE 8, 2025.
